Electricity Generation

As the global demand for energy increases, the electricity generation sector will be instrumental in developing and implementing solutions to mitigate or reduce the impacts of climate change. Many countries, states or provincial governments have already decided to regulate the GHG emissions of large energy producers. Improvements in efficiency, clean technologies and other energy saving measures are potential solutions that can help reduce the GHG emissions of organizations operating in the energy sector.

Developing and implementing a GHG management plan to identify climate change related risks and opportunities is an important step to ensure that energy companies are ready for the new business requirements linked to climate change.

The development of a GHG inventory allows organizations to determine their GHG emissions profile, areas of risk and reduction opportunities. Once a GHG inventory is developed, decisions can be made about setting GHG reduction targets for specific areas of operation. Upper management will then be in a better position to identify and select the reduction targets and to implement new energy efficient measures or clean technologies to reduce the company’s GHG footprint.

The GHG management plan also allows organizations to demonstrate to shareholders, investors and insurers that the climate change risks facing them are being addressed and mitigated through sound GHG management practice.

ClimateCHECK offers a wide range of services related to GHG management including the development of GHG inventories according to current best practice guidance, the development of GHG management handbooks and the identification of reduction opportunities and clean technologies that have the potential to reduce an organization’s GHG emissions.

ClimateCHECK team members have performed GHG inventory and handbook development for natural gas distribution companies and GHG inventory verification for large multi-national organizations. In addition ClimateCHECK is performing a strategic assessment of project opportunities related to GHG credit creation for a large energy provider operating in North America.

"ClimateCHECK continues to be an irreplaceable advisor for GE AES Greenhouse Gas Services’ entry into the voluntary GHG credit markets. From strategy to process to the details of highly technical protocol development and validation, ClimateCHECK brings world-class experience in best practice standards. As an expert in all facets of carbon markets, ClimateCHECK is helping us set the standard in international best practices."
